Board Meeting Demonstration

Many LGBTQ+ supporters and demonstrators showed up Monday night, but not everybody who was wearing “Kirkwood red” at the KSD Board meeting was there to protest.

A parent reached out to KFEI and said that despite her sweatshirt being featured in the news story about allegations regarding the District’s treatment of gender-diverse staff, she ironically had actually just come from her child’s sporting event at a Kirkwood school and was wearing “Kirkwood red” because she supports Kirkwood and all of its students.

Please listen to the Board meeting and note the calls for the Kirkwood School District to NOT be neutral. For years, KFEI and others have been working toward restoring the public schools as a space that is neutral and safe for ALL kids and families. Clearly, that is not the goal of everyone.

Sadly, the demonstrators’ departure from the meeting after the public comments distracted from the recognition of the KHS Girls Swim and Dive team for their third-place overall finish at the MSHSAA State Championships. Congratulations, girls!!

Context matters. Facts matter. Pay attention. Speak up.
