KSD’s Inconsistencies with Required Parental Notification

In case you are not aware, even when parental notification is required by KSD, they are inconsistent in offering it.

For example, this book is a choice in the middle school English curriculum and requires parental notification if it is chosen by the student. But in both middle schools, the same book is recommended in numerous places and is provided freely for students to check out. We don’t know if this is a “good book” or not; that is not the point. The point is that KSD does not follow its own policies and rules and no one is held accountable for it.

We suggest you reach out to the schools or the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum & Instruction (bryan.painter@kirkwoodschools.org) and ask them to explain this. Please let us know what you learn (contact@kfei.org).
